Hi, I cannot use Keyshot 2023 because it keeps crashing on startup.
I tried deleting and fresh installing several times.
Picture and video attached showing the crash error.
The error shown is “Workspace restore Skipped”.
“Workspace restore failed on last key shot start.”
Please let me know what to do, as my projects are getting delayed.
I already requested support with ticket #95713 on 10th July 2023, but no reply yet.
My PC details are as follows.
Microsoft Windows 11 Home Insider Preview
Version: 10.0.25905 Build 25905
System Model|X570 AORUS PRO WIFI
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor, 3401 Mhz, 16 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s)|
Installed Physical Memory (RAM): 64.0 GB
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090
Rename your KS12Settings.xml (it is located in your resource folder).
Make sure your resource folder is not located on OneDrive or another kind of Network Drive.
Restart KeyShot and make sure to disable all migration
If this does not work, please send us the renamed KS12Settings.xml file, as well as any crash dump files you might have. Crash dump files are located here on Windows: C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Luxion\Crashpad 12.
Also feel free to reference this thread.
Hi Synje. My resource files are located in Google Drive. Perhaps that is the issue. I did try to reinstall the key shot with the default resource file location, but it did not work, probably because old settings files were not cleared. You say to rename " KS12Settings.xml". But what should I rename it to?
Hi Tony,
It should be enough to just add a 1 in front of the existing name. That way, KeyShot will be unable to read the file and create a new one instead.
And yes, having it on a network drive can very well be the issue, as KeyShot needs to read the file for different kinds of reasons on start up. It still should not crash though, so if you have any crash dumps, feel free to send them to me as a PM.
Update: Synje helped fix the problem. I gave her the crashpad 12 files, and he identified that another program being open in my system called “GPU Tweak 3”, which is a GPU control software, was causing the crash. I closed and uninstalled “GPU Tweak 3”, and keyshot is starting fine!
Thanks, Synje!
If you still want to change some of the GPU behaviour, I use MSI AfterBurner (don’t have an MSI card though). While I also did a bit of a overclock I actually lowered the max. power to 90% so it draws less power (good for the electrical bill, and keeps it cooler) and I changed the fan curve a bit. Some GPU’s have the fan off unless a certain temperature is reached and I like it to be always on for some airflow.
Only do so if you feel confident enough and with one button you can put all on default again. I especially like the power limit and fan curve. It can also be handy to monitor the temperature of the GPU and if it starts to throttle because it’s really hot.
Same problem here. I’ve made multiple attempts to use Keyshot 2023 but it keeps crashing. I finally gave up and went back to Keyshot 11. I’ve tried every contingency I can think of short of getting a brand new laptop. Previous versions have been reliable.
It depends a bit on when it crashes but I know someone’s issues got resolved by renaming the ‘KS12Settings.xml’. KeyShot will than create a new one because it can’t find the old.
That user had crashes on render, some before finishing the render and sometimes with saving after the render was created. If you re-install KS2023 you get a question if you would migrate the settings and I would select no.
Not sure if your problem is the same but if you still have it installed you could simply rename the settings file once and see what happens.
