My twist on 'from Clay to Keyshot'

I was inspired after seeing posts about going “from clay to Keyshot” and I thought it would be a fun challenge to try my hand at this wet pottery scene. I’m pleased with how it turned out, and the new processes I learned along the way.

I’d love to see some material graph shots. Is all the texturing dones in KS? Did you use the wood by chance for the pottery wheel? I’m also curious about the drips down the bowl in the foreground. 3D paint? This is one of my favorite shots I’ve seen recently.

Thanks Will. Yes, everything was textured in KS.

For the wheel, I didn’t use wood. Instead I used two different Radial Brushed maps with some low-scaled distortion. I used these in tandem with some other maps to add/subtract from the chaos of it all. One of the radial maps operates as the displacement where I used a radial gradient to lower the displacement height as it emanates out from the center

For the water bowl, I got a little lazy since I knew the DOF would be mostly blurring this out. But this used a combination of a bunch of different maps I already had. I have some textures, that I got from who-knows-where, of some water streaks and drips. I layered this over a bunch of other random textures, and tried my hand at the 3d painting to all combine into what you see. Like I said though, I let the DOF hide the flaws on this bowl.

Fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing. This is such a unique scene, I love how well you executed it in KeyShot. We’re used to pretty clean images, so this one really stands out!

This was so clever and cool that we shared on our social media posts - check it out
