recommend courses please

Hi All,

I am wondering if people can help recommend some great courses to learn more of keyshot, one of my KPIs at work is to get some training but there is quite a few online but not sure which is best for me… i work in a lighting manufacturer and i am supplied step files of our products from our R&D so out of the course i would ideally like the following

. materials - we use mainly metal materials in various paint finishes with glass
. creating light outputs using iso files prodvided by our light testing facilities
. creating models if possible in keyshot (not neccessary)

Hi @trevor.zimm,

For knowledge about the materials I think the course of Will Gibbons can really give you a great amount of information. Not only about the materials but also a bit of the theory behind it and for example how certain light setups work and help you to get the perfect shot.

The light output files using iso files sound a bit like a kind of conversion between iso and .IES since you can use the IES files. Not sure what you want to achieve since KS is a renderer and not so much a tool to calculate exact light values.

For creating models like the ones you showed earlier I think Fusion 360 can be really nice. I’m also doing some video tutorial of Fusion 360 just to get the basics a bit and I think for objects like the light fixtures it would be a great tool. Also because you can change things later as it can record the steps you took. Non-commercial use is free so you can just try it at first if you like.

Hi Trevor,

That’s awesome! Think the good thing of the course is you don’t learn tricks like in a lot of tutorials but also about the ‘why’ so it’s a really good base for renders/materials/lighting in general as well.

Looking forward to fresh renders

I’m in the middle of Will Material Masterclass course, and i will say one thing- it is very thorough. It takes a long time to do some steps, and I will advise you to follow along and do ALL the things, there are parts you can skip, (like making a model set for each material type) but don’t, it gives you lots of muscle memory when it comes to doing repetative tasks.

its great, and explains a lot, and finishes with a scene that is built from scratch. Great program well worth the money.

Thanks for the advise / tip Matt…

I am wanting to learn keyshot thoroughly so that is a good thing, as i am kind of self taught … so be great to actually do a course to learn properly about the program… is there any parts in the course that discuss’s glass etc becuase i know it is using a google home model but that model doesnt really use glass so be interesting to see how to do that better etc

Hey! So, I don’t spend much if any time on glass materials on the KeyShot Rendering Masterclass, but do a fair bit on the Material Masterclass.

That said, if you have issues or questions at any point after you dive into the course, you can send me a message on discord and I’m happy to help if I can.
