Vuitton EPI Leather texture

I would like to create a material known as Epi leather. It is mostly by LV. I have cow and calf hide textures, but I would like to create the wave pattern with another texture as a displacement. Which texture node would work best? Another difficulty will be the coloroing, as the embosssed parts a colored darker.
Any input or suggestion would be very welcome!

Hi Lukas,

I took a quick crack at it here:

For the base leather, I’m using a leather texture from Poliigon:

Then using the Brushed procedural texture and plugging it into a displacement node. Note setup here:

To get the debossed areas to appear darker, you can use a color composite node to multiply the brushed texture and the color map.

You could also use the black and white Epi texture you provided, although you’d want to make a seamless/tileable version of it (tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vE0dR-TWVg4). I did a quick and dirty version with an AI tool, but you’d get better results with more time spent doing it manually. You can see the tiling in the wider view:

This result gets closer to your reference image in the “closeup” views

That’s awesome! I have excellent PBR leather resources. I own the Arroway leather library!
I didn’t think about using the BW texture…I was trying to figure out a way to get the “waves” done with a procedural!

Thank you!
