What's your KeyShot Benchmark score?

Roughly it works that way, I’m not sure how much use KeyShot makes of the other features of a card like the RT cores and other RTX features. In V-Ray the 5080 scores about 4500 and the 3090 about 3500. In the V-Ray RTX version the difference is much higher because the 5080 has also more RT cores. And it’s VRAM is much faster than the 3090.

Looking at the price it can still be interesting to have two 3090s combined using NVLink and you will have a nice performance and 48GB of VRAM (this doesn’t work on newer cards).

@calvin.henderson ha! That’s a worth it! Be aware your Nvidia driver version is not one that’s recommended using KS. I also use a new one (576.15) but I had some issues rendering frames for an animation and could be related to my drivers. So if you encounter weird issues, first blame the driver, Nvidia makes a mess of them the past 4 months.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up! I actually just updated the driver to the latest one and noticed it dropped to ~99.5, wasn’t sure if it was from running consecutive tests or the newer driver.

I think the KeyShot Viewer test doesn’t work well for fast GPUs. If I run it twice I get really different scores. Think the scene should be at least so heavy it runs like a minute or so. That makes sure it’s testing the GPU and not the time for all stuff to travel to the GPU(s).

The issue I had in the past while I rendered an animation as stills that suddenly the render time went up from 20s to 4-5 minutes per frame. And past week I rendered something using both my GPU’s and I didn’t get any error but it skipped 5 items in the queue.

It doesn’t hurt to try a new driver but if you have to render a lot of frames it might be smarter to go for the driver from September 2024 (561.xx). Doesn’t really matter if you render a still but with a deadline and expecting your laptop did all renders at night it can be a nightmare.
