I downloaded KS 2023 and it crashes every couple of minutes. I tried reinstalling the software and rebooting my machine to no avail. Anyone else having issues? I’m reverting back to KS 11. I’m using a Windows Laptop with a NVIDIA 3070.
I have the same issue. I’ve been contacting them since June 1st and no one replies to my emails
What do you use, GPU/CPU, and Windows/MacOs? And is any of those two overclocked? I notice that if I overclock my CPU too much KeyShot will crash. I’ve no issues with crashes but it could also be something with a specific scene for example or if you use GPU it might help to do a clean install from the Nvidia drivers. Do a safe boot and let DDU remove the old ones and after restart install the new ones. Turn off save mode and reboot again.
You can get DDU here: Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.6.4 (guru3d.com)
And to easily boot in safe mode I normally click the windows button and type msconfig and press enter, than you can just change the boot option to safe boot.
I don’t know exactly why but sometimes I’ve issues with the drivers and sometimes a simple reinstall helps.
I use CPU & Windows 11.
I do not overclock
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling 2021 & 2023 Solidworks
Uninstalling and reinstalling KeyShot 11 and 2023
Uninstalling and reinstalling the SW to KS plugin (for both 2023 and 11)
Installing new GPU drivers with a fresh install (options when installing the driver, asks if you want to remove all current content)
I will try reinstalling drivers again using DDU
Check! Really weird you’ve such issues. I also normally use the ‘clean install’ but think DDU is a bit more hardcore. Saw there’s just a new driver.
You’ve always problems with the same action or just in general it’s real unstable?
Hi @Yabusa - Do you have a ticket number regarding this case? I see a number of responses from Support to you regarding crashing in NURBS mode (ticket #93521), but if you aren’t receiving our emails, or if there is a ticket we have missed, please let me know so I can have someone look at it ASAP. Thank you!
Hey,
I have posted a guideline in this post
That should also help us with troubleshooting in this case.
Since the Issue for you seems to only happen after a certain amount of time, it is a good idea to make sure the System is indeed sufficiently cooled. Due to KeyShots Nature as rendering Tool, it will try to squeeze every bit of performance out of your hardware, and put load on the System that exceed what othertools require.
Due to this KeyShot can reveal isssues like, insuffiecent cooling, to agressive overclocks, insufficient Power supplies and in some cases bad hardware.
If you are certain that isnt the problem, i suggest you go through the below steps:
We are currently investigating why KeyShot seems to be so unstable on some devices.
Sadly we are not able to observe the instabilities on our hardware. For those of you that are not in contact with the Support team yet, i would highly encurage you to contact them and provide the crashdump as instructed by Synje.
Before submitting the crash dumps plese try these first:
- Make sure KeyShot is up to date.
- Make sure Windows and GPU driver(amd/intel and Nvidia) are up to date
- especially the intel integrated graphics driver is known to cause crashes(independent of the GPU mode)
- Make sure the Dedicated GPU is used for running keyshot. Find Guides on how to do that here and here.
- Try renaming the settings.xml file in the resource folder and not migrating settings
- if this solves the issue we would like to receive the renamed original *.xml
- Try a fresh install(including clearingot renaming the resource folder)
- If this solves the issue this points towards a specific file in the library to be the culprit, try to re-add the files (on by one or in chunks) back into the newly generated resource folder and see which file causes the issue to reapear.
Retreiving the Crashdump files
If none of the above solves the issue we would like to request the crashdumps.
- Try to reproduce the Crash:
If possible provide exact steps on how the crash occures and exact version number- after a crash occurred they will be located in:
Windows: %appdata%\Luxion\crashpad 12 .
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Luxion/Crashpad 12The *.dmp files can be forwarded to us for further investigation.
Note: We have already indentified potential issues with ASUS’s GPU Tweak 3 that can cause crashes: https://community.keyshot.com/forum/t/keyshot-2023-2-crashing-on-startup/839/5
I hope this helps.
I wasn’t getting responses in a reasonable time. I’ve been left waiting for 13 days, until I posted, and now I was contacted.
@gary.gee
Hey Gary, there is indeed a bug.
I’ve reported it with KeyShot’s support team.
They should have a fix, just not sure when yet.
Thanks, I’m still using Keyshot 11. I’ve made several attempts to upgrade but the crashing persists.
